INTERVIEW:
Questions answered by Boys Will Be Boys drummer, Mark Wood.
How did the band come together, and how did you all meet?
The band formed from a pre-existing band called Kenmore. When Kenmore broke up, Kevin and I wanted to do something a little bit more poppy and more mainstream so we made Boys Will Be Boys. I met Lehi in middle school through another local band, and Joe at a random party. BWBB was formed and we recorded and released word on the street single! Unfortunateley, Kevin decided to leave the band and music and we picked up Mike Civetti from Maryland who is the man!
How’d you come up with your name?
Kevin and I were on Kenmore’s last tour when we came up with the idea for the band, we wanted it to involve boys just being boys….so the cliche boys will be boys line went well!
Tell us a little about your Pre-Release EP. Is it your debut EP?
It is not our debut EP, we had 3 solid songs recorded that we wanted the world to hear, so we dropped them digitally on itunes. We didnt want to call it an ep, because it was just 3 songs so we called it the Pre Release…I think were going to name our next CD be it EP or full length…. THE RELEASE!
On your MySpace, your genre says “Dirty Pop.” Can you explain to us what “Dirty Pop” sounds like?
Haha, were just pop music, but we wrote dirty pop because Justin Timberlake from Nsync had a song named that! But were pop music, with catchy guitar solo’s and chorus’.
How has the scene in Virginia influenced your music?
Were from northern VA, its like 10 mins from DC and some great bands just got signed from our area…My Favorite Highway, The Friday Night Boys, The Bigger Lights, check them all out! As for being unfluenced, we take influences from our fav bands, who are not in the local scene, but we do love all the bands from our area!
What can fans expect your live show to be like?
A dance party, come have fun with us!
In a blog post you said to “expect a killer EP coming out this summer.” Have you guys been writing frequently? How does the writing process take place for your band - is it a group effort or does one individual write all the lyrics and/or melodies?
We write as a band all together, and yes, expect a killer EP this summer!
What’s your inspiration behind your songs?
girls girls girls!
You also mentioned in your blog that Nate from Hit The Lights is working with you. What exactly is he working with you on and how’d you get hooked up with him?
He used to manage our band, but since he’s on tour all the time now, we chose to change management and go with David Marsh out of Arizona. Expect big news soon!
What is something you want your fans to realize about your band?
Music is meant to have fun while listening to it! If you like pop music, but also want great guitar solos and techno beats, then you should definitely give us a listen, and check our songs out on itunes. We reply back to everyone who writes us, and we love our fans more than anyone else!
What are some things you want to accomplish with your band?
Get signed, go on tour with some great bands, meet great people and make new friends, then look back on all of it and remember all of the great memories!
Twitter seems to be the new buzz lately. What are your thoughts on it from a musician’s perspective?
It is AMAZING! It’s the best tool for a fan to be able to check up on a day to day basis on who/where/what/when their fav artist is doing!
Can you give SUR readers a peek into the not-so-distant future of Boys Will Be Boys?
EP this summer, record deal negotiations going on right now, but it takes a long time for stuff to be finalized, 2-3 week tour this summer, cover song coming out in April, new MySpace with new promo pics in a few weeks too.
Can you give us one straight up random fact about each band member?
Mark Wood (me) - I have epilepsy
Lehi - brother is a great singer in crash boom bang
Mike - goes to The University of Maryland in college park
Joe - programs for Electronic Arts (the people who make madden)
Any last words for the readers of Straight Up Random?
If you read this, you rock and hopefully I didn’t bore you all! Check us out, and I love you. Free hugs and kisses if you see us live and tell us you found out about us through here!
