INTERVIEW:
**All questions answered by Josh Jenkins of Green River Ordinance**
How did the band come together?
Jamey and Geoff Ice started GRO in their parents’ garage when they were 13 and 15. In the early GRO years the brothers’ sound was blues rock. It wasn’t till Jr. year that I (Josh Jenkins) met them through some friends. I had heard they were looking for a new singer so I tried out and joined the band shortly after. Around senior year of highschool we were looking for a new guitar player and Joshua was one of the first people that tried out and it was a fit. At that time our sound had developed into more of a pop/rock sound. After we graduated and started college we were looking for a drummer that wanted to pursue music seriously. I remember Jamey posting a wanted ad through TCU to all the students that we were looking for a drummer. Shortly after we met Denton who was a TCU drum major. It didn’t take us long to know that Denton is who we wanted.
How’d you come up with your name?
The name came from a street sign in our old guitar players garage. It was a name that sounded southern and different. At the time Jamey and Geoff were big into CCR and thought Green River Ordinance had the same kind of vibe.
What bands/artists are you influenced by?
A few of my favorites are u2, Tom petty and a lot of good 90’s music like Tonic, Collective Soul, 3eb.
How would you describe your music for people who have never heard it before?
If u2 and Tom Petty had a grandchild. Hopefully that would be close to us. A pop/rock sound with a new twist.
What makes your band different from all the other ones out there?
There is a lot of great music out there. We are believers that as a band we live and die by the songs we write. We have always tried to challenge ourselves on that front. We try not to take ourselves to seriously though. We want to write music people can sing along with on a cd or at a show.
