T.G.I.F. Featured Band: The Darlings

How did the band come together?

The Darlings came together in 2005 when our guitar player, Josh [Kearney] met our singer, Buddy, skateboarding. They started talking and realized they both played guitar and had a love of music. They figured why not start a band, and thus The Darlings were born.

How’d you come up with your name?

We wanted a name that was classy, had a good rock n roll feel, but wasn’t too overly cliche or “tough” sounding. We have a soft side to us, what can I say…The Darlings just worked.

What bands/artists are you influenced by?

I think we are all influenced by different artists and bands…we like everything from classic rock to hip-hop to punk rock. Rancid, Social Distortion, Dropkick Murphy’s, Rise Against, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Bruce Springstein, Guns N’ Roses…these are just some of the bands or artists we are influenced from.

How would you describe your music for people who have never heard it before?

We are a rock n’ roll band. We try to write music that is timeless, that doesn’t fall victim to the latest trend or movement. We all grew up listening to amazing punk rock and rock bands that could write songs that stand the test of time. We make it a point to try and do the same. We’re a modern rock n’ roll band with some 1950’s swagger. Check www.myspace.com/thedarlings and give it a listen.

What makes your band different from all the other ones out there?

We’re making it a point to do the same thing we’ve been doing and wanted to do from day one…which is to write good music that doesn’t exist only because of a trend or movement that is happening.
