INTERVIEW:

**All questions answered by Alex Howard of Condtions**

How did the band come together?

All of us had played in different bands around Richmond, so we had known each while we were in high school. When we left those bands or they broke up, we decided to start something together as sort of a last ditch effort to try music before giving up and doing college full time.

How’d you come up with your name?

We took it from a quote by the composer Nadia Boulanger. The quote is “the essential conditions of everything you do must be choice, love, and passion.”

What bands/artists are you influenced by?

As most musicians will say, we have an extremely wide array of influences but some that we can definitely all agree on are Muse, Blink 182, Thrice, Finch, and Underoath.

How would you describe your music for people who have never heard it before?

I tell the average person that we’re an alternative rock band that’s just as heavy as it is catchy, and we’re a singing band not a screaming one haha. That’s the most dreaded question to ask someone in a band, but I just compare us and say we sound similar to bands like Saosin, Paramore, Circa Survive, Finch, and Acceptance.

What makes your band different from all the other ones out there?

I think what sets us apart is the thought of bringing some sort of substance back to rock music. Everyone out there today sings about girls and partying, and all of that is great, but that’s not the message that we want to convey to audiences every night. We hope that people can find something a little deeper in our lyrics, and it’s something they can connect with and make them think.
