Interview: The Friday Night Boys

Photobucket

THE FRIDAY NIGHT BOYS BIO: After self-releasing The Sketch Process EP, The Friday Night Boys were being recognized by fans and media outlets alike. It wasn’t soon before long until they’d be scooped up by a label, and being friends with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low helped introduce the band to Fueled By Ramen. But Gaskarth still wanted to be involved in helping the band so he decided to make the Friday Night Boys the first signing to his imprint label, The Party Scene. Photo Finish also wanted to help out so a collaborative signing between Fueled By Ramen, The Party Scene, and Photo Finish took place. The band soon released their That’s What She Said EP and then later released their debut full-length album Off The Deep End. Now the band is touring on the Let’s Make A Mess Tour in support of Off The Deep End and will continue touring in the fall on the Hot Mess tour with Cobra Starship headlining.

CONCERT REVIEW: Let’s Make A Mess Tour

INTERVIEW:

So how’s [Let’s Make A Mess Tour] tour been treating you?

Andrew: Amazing, wonderful.

Chris: Fantastic.

Andrew: All the shows have been awesome. All the bands we’re on tour with are really nice, and we’ve gotten to be really great friends with all of them.

So what’s been your favorite city?

Chris: Connecticut

Andrew: Hartford, Connecticut

Mike: Toronto…Ontario

Andrew: New York City, and hopefully Ft. Lauderdale

Any reason why?

Mike: Those crowds are just awesome. They’ve been super supportive and like that was the first time we played in Canada and we were really stoked that kids knew about our stuff.

What has been your most memorable moment on this tour so far?

Andrew: Probably last night, was one of our more memorable moments where we walked down to the beach with This Providence and Stereo Skyline. We hung for like a while and just talked…

Mike: Till around 5 or 6 AM.

Andrew: Yea and just chilled by the ocean.

Chris: I went to bed.

Mike: We had to sneak into the place we were staying ‘cause…

Andrew: Everyone fell asleep where we were supposed to stay so we had to sneak in through the sliding glass door.

Your next tour after this is going to be with Cobra Starship, so what are you guys looking forward to on that tour?

Chris: Just the same old thing, just continuing to play, meeting new people, meeting new tour buddies.

Mike: I think it’ll be cool to play with Cobra Starship in those size of venues because I think that they’re a bigger band then a lot of the venues that we’re going on this tour so I think that it’s going to be pretty cool.

So how did you guys get signed to Fueled By Ramen, Photo Finish Records, and The Party Scene?

Andrew: I think it was just a collaborative effort from the three parties we were talking to.

Chris: They all wanted to help so we just let them.

Andrew: Yea, they all wanted to be involved and it worked out. They’re all helping with us.

Your new album [Off The Deep End] was released last month, so how was the recording process for that?

Andrew: Amazing. Very energetic, very natural flowing, really cool. We got to work with a lot of really, really awesome people. And it was just a great experience for all of us. We were out in LA so we were able to hang out and be surrounded by cool scenery.

Chris: Yea, and everybody kept saying that it didn’t even feel like work. It was just kind of like us hanging out. It just so happened we were making a record there.

How would you guys summarize your new album for people who haven’t heard it?

Chris: Bangin

Andrew: 12 bangin…

Chris: Buxom

Andrew: Buxom bodacious songs by four bros. We just had so much fun making the CD…it’s a really fun CD with a serious side to it.

Mike: Yea

Andrew: We’re really happy with it, and we hope everyone’s going to check it out

What’s your favorite song to play live off the new album?

Andrew: “Suicide Sunday” and” Stuttering,” and “Permanent Heartbreak”

Mike: “Permanent Heartbreak”

Chris: “SuicideSunday”

Any reason why? Does the crowd get really rallied for them?

Chris: Their energetic songs so you can definitely tell like that brings out energy to everybody else.

Mike: It’s just like fun to play things that we haven’t been playing all year. It keeps it interesting and fresh.

Why did you guys choose to make a video for the song “Stuttering?”

Andrew: We just wanted a preliminary video off a song that we’re all pretty confident that we will all like. We wanted something to put online, and have kids see like the first video.

Chris: That video experience was definitely the coolest ever too. Like we got there probably around 9 PM and stayed there until like 6 in the morning, and it was really awesome. It was just cool to see the inner workings of making a video and stuff like that.

Andrew: It was like at this little house in Connecticut, like really in the middle of nowhere. We were out there just all night shooting the video. It was really cool.

Can you give me one straight up random fact about each of you guys?

Chris: I bite my nails.

Mike: My middle name starts with Q.

Andrew: I’m Jewish.

Any last words for the readers of Straight Up Random?

Chris: A lot of really great energy went into making our CD, so we certainly hope that the exact same energy translates over to you, and that you’ll give it right back to us.

Andrew: You can feed off of us, and we can feed off of you. And in turn, you can feed off of our feeding.

Mike: You can eat our energy, and then shit out your own energies which will then be reused for soil, to grow new energy.
