Interview with Eric of Gym Class Heroes

How have you guys been enjoying Warped Tour?

Eric: This is our third year on Warped Tour so we knew exactly what to expect. This has been a really fun time, all of our friends are out on it, and we’ve had some pretty crazy crowds.

 So, your new album The Quilt is coming out soon, and you guys are going to go out on tour again, right? 

E: Yea, that’s all we do is tour pretty much. Last year we did a little over 300 shows. Right after Warped Tour, we only have like two weeks off and then we go international, we come back and we got another late Fall, early Winter, tour with The Roots. That’s gonna be dope, and that’s gonna take us into the next year.   

You released the Patches From The Quilt EP, and there was like 3 songs on there. 

E: Yea, the three that are on there, I believe are “Live A Litte,” “Blinded By The Sun,” and “Cookie Jar.” I think that’s like a really good mix for us to put out because it draws from like Reggae, and straight rock.  

So those three are definitely going to be on the album?

 E: Absolutely. 

Recently there was the incident with the racial slurs. 

E: Well, I don’t really comment on that because I’m not Travis, but I just back him 100 percent, that’s for sure.

When does the album come out? 

E: It comes out September 9th, and yea, it’s going to be awesome.

 I saw the album art and it’s pretty “dark.” 

E: That’s just like the artwork kind of thing. Kind of like with our name Gym Class Heroes, I don’t think that really describes our sound at all, just like I don’t think the artwork describes what the album sounds like. We just like to play around with themes and things like that, and the dark carnival theme was something that we’ve always been kickin’ around. 
 
It’s not going to be a creep album or anything?
 
E: No, no, I don’t think it is in any way. It’s just we wanted some kick ass artwork.  
Are you going to have any singles?

E: Yea, our first single coming out really soon is going to be with Busta Rhymes called “Peace Sign/Index Down.” It’s a really really dope song. We just got done doing a video for it in L.A., and that comes out in a week I think. It comes out and it’s going to be on MTVHits, it’s going to be on rotation on TRL, I don’t know, I don’t watch that much.
