SUR Warped Highlight: Miracle Dolls
Interview with Miracle Dolls
How did the band come together?
Desiree: Me and Danielle are twin sisters. We have been playing together since we were 13…it’s always been a natural collaboration.
Taz: Well, I met them through Myspace like all my other bands I played for…love myspace.
Were you always into music growing up?
Desiree: Definitely. I listened to oldies growing up and as a teenager, punk music and pop.
Danielle: Yes! My mom used to listen to oldies like The Supremes and Smoky Robinson so as a kid I loved oldies…
Taz: Yep, I’ve always been into music…funny thing is, I was mostly into R&B, and hip hop, and rap, but after Jr High, that all changed once I heard a song from Blink 182…I wish I could remember the name.
How did your name come about??
Desiree and Daniel: Our mom had a dream 3 tmes in one night of the name “Miracle Dolls” on a big marquee, and she told us and at the time we were actually looking for a band name.
[Directed toward Danielle and Desiree] Is it weird playing with your sister in the band?
Desiree: I like it ‘cause I always have my best friend there, and we understand each other musically.
Danielle: No, I like it. It’s definitely good attention especially in this music industry…
[Directed toward Taz] How does it feel to be the only guy in the band?
Taz: Well, I really don’t think about it much. I see them more as buddies and musicians than just girls. Sometimes, I don’t even think about it. Plus, I love bands with girl vocalists like Flyleaf and Paramore.
When listening to your songs, it’s not the average pop rock that you hear from a lot of bands nowadays.
So who are your influences?
Desiree: I dig Rancid alot, Pixies, Green Day, Garbage, Metric, The Action Design, and The Sounds.
Danielle: I really like Rancid, Pixies, and Tegan and Sara alot. It’s funny, I could listen to those bands anytimre and not get bored of ‘em.
Taz: Well too many to list. Bands like Thrice, Blink 182, Yellowcard, and Flyleaf are some of my favorites, and anything by Korn. Yea, I know it doesn’t fit to our style, but I like all styles.
So you played some Warped dates on the Kia Kevin Says Stage, how did you get this opportunity?
We worked with Kevin Lymen at Coachella and we gave Kevin Lymen a demo, and he said he liked it and gave us so me dates on Warped.
Does it excite you to know that other bands such as Story Of The Year and My Chemical Romance also started out playing on that stage?
Yes! God it’s awesome, this year we got to play with “The Action Design,” it’s the lead singer of “Tsunami Bomb.” To know that we took the opportunityh to perform on a well known stage gives us incentive to do more for our bands.
Taz: Yea, it’s crazy…I mean, I bet I would be more hyped up if I knoew that. I honestly didn’t even know till after we played the shows.
You guys played for the first three dates of Warped, so how did you like it? Would you like to play the entire tour one day?
Desiree: Yes. I’m excited…to go back out and get sweaty and sticky on stage…I think we’re playing next year too.
Danielle: It would be rad! I keep asking Kevin for some more dates next year, so you may see us out thre for the whole tour next year…
Taz: Hell yea. I would love to play the full tour, and any tour on that matter. Vans Warped Tour was my first, and I hope more to come.
So, can you give SUR readers a peek into the not-so-distant future of the Miracle Dolls?
We will be touring winter time to Seattle, Washington and back to California.
Okay, last question, can you give us one truly straight up random fact about yourself?
Desiree: I like the Metaphysical section at book stores.
Danielle: I love Borders Bookstore’s music section. I could be there for hours…. T
Taz: I’m an old school skater and a big time gamer.
