Interview: Brandon Kane of Lose The Name
INTERVIEW: When did you realize you wanted to play in a band, and how did you all meet? I heard sublime in ‘95 and picked up a guitar. After years of banging out sublime covers, I had a friend introduce me to strung out and from then on, I knew I wanted to do something like they were doing. We all met a few years later after playing in seperate bands. It just clicked from there. How did you come up with your name? Well, we had a name that we all really liked and played under that name for five years until we found out there was another band already called that and they got signed before we did. So, we had to lose the name. Brilliant, right? Yeah, we thought so, too. All the good names are taken. Can you describe your sound for us? I guess I would say melodic skatepunk. You can hear our influences, but I honestly don’t think we sound like anyone else. I know every band thinks that, though. Do you guys plan on releasing a full length anytime soon? We’d like to get back into the studio before the end of the year, but it might not happen due to our schedule. We’ll probably record two songs when we can squeeze them in and then the rest sometime after the new year. What can fans expect your live show to be like? Lots of energy, and brad and jimmy sync jumping. Lots of harmonies too. Pretty much the ep on crack. Do you have any special routines before you go up on stage? Coffee and Cigarettes. Brad and Jimmy like to stretch, as you would expect from any world class athlete. How about that nastia luikin, huh? How has the scene in Pennsylvania helped and/or hurt your band? We’ve met some of the coolest people playing shows in PA. We totally appreciate the support. Some of the best bands I’ve ever seen are from PA. As far as hurting, I could do without the fashion kids, but what are you gonna do? Just roll with it, I guess. Is there any venue you haven’t been to that you would love to perform at? None specifically,…I guess The Whisky just because of the history. I know there are alot better clubs, but to play where The Doors did,…I think that would be really cool. What’s something you want your fans to realize about your band? I would say this just about bands in general,…after a show, a friendly word or two does so much to make you feel like it’s not such an constant struggle. Bands need to hear that feedback. If you enjoyed a show, let ‘em hear it. I’m saying any band, not just us. There’s so much that goes into being in a band that you might not realize. Encouraging words can be a shot in the vein. What has been your band’s biggest accomplishment? Just staying together for six years is a big accomplishment, I think. Signing to takeover was sweet. Playing and meeting all of the really great bands over the years. It’s hard to say just one. What are your plans for the remainder of ‘08? Tour and write new songs. We got a Takeover Tour in PA and in Florida coming up. Some big shows at home. We have a few things we have to take care of by years end. Can you give us one straight up random fact about each band member? Brad WILL NOT use a white lighter. Jimmy’s gonna be a dad. Mike has a serious anger problem. I(brandon) broke my elbow once when I elbowed my friend’s grandma in the head, accidentally of course. Where can our readers buy your music? You can get the new ep on iTunes or at takeoverdigital.com. We also have ringtones for sale there as well. Check it, get a free ringtone right now actually…just text LOSETHENAME 5 to 69937. Any last words for the readers of Straight Up Random? You can get around a dog, nobody F’s with a lion.
