The Review: It’s Like Love’s album “You’re To Sweet For Rock & Roll” is perfect piano-pop-rock to the utmost. This album is so refreshing compared to all the crap-music that is currently getting attention. Although the overall theme to this album is about love and heartbreak, they managed to keep the music that goes with the lyrics upbeat and even sometimes danceable (in the context of “I’m dancing alone at my house in front of the mirror” kind of way).
After hearing the first few notes of “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” I was instantly hooked on the catchy piano and the unique vocals of singer Jeremy Rondeau. The lyrics to this song were about love which is the presiding theme to this album as Rondeau sings “I won’t ever fall in love again/Love is nothing but a passing trend/I’m am to afraid to fall apart/I will share my thoughts but not my heart”
“Take Me To Bed, Or Lose Me Forever” is a song about not getting over his breakup as he sings “You got over me/But I don’t ever see myself being over you.” This song has all the qualities of a good pop song with the piano, the synths, lyrics about love, and a good up tempo beat.
The next song called “Minus The Music And The Bottle,” is one that’s rather fun, and would get anyone off their feet to do a little dance. It even has the word dancing in it as Rondeau sings “This isn’t last call/but it’s last night/dancin’ in your bedroom/cursin’ at the daylight.”
“Keep Your Eyes On Me” is a catchy song that is rather synth heavy and has clever lyrics. During the second verse, the lyrics seem to weave all of the clichés and sayimgs into one line as Rondeau sings “what a tangled web we weave/when first we practice to deceive/there’s no good girls gone wrong/just bad girls in this song/what you see is what you get.”
“Devin, Don’t Give Up” might be the only song on the album that’s not about a girl and relationships, but instead is a song about a friend in need of help. He tactfully sings about how he should “get some help before it gets too late.”
The next song titled “Hey Lucy” starts off as if it should be sung in a musical as Rodeau sings “Tell me what it’s like to be happy/tell me what it’s like to be miserable/I never felt a thing/till you loved meAnd I can’t feel a thing/since you left me,” and alongside him is the soothing background vocals singing “ooooooh” after every line. Maybe you have to hear it for yourself to understand what I’m talking about, but I know once you hear it, you’ll see my vision for this song.
“Alcohol Brings Out The Bedroom Eyes” is a mini story about a girl and guy who do things they normally wouldn’t. It’s entertaining to listen to, and the song is fun and upbeat.
The next song that comes on is called “You Put The Whore In Sorority” and is a very piano-driven track. I think every time you sing “Liar, liar” in any song, it makes for a good song. Whether it’s the way it rolls off your tongue as you sing along or just because you can relate, when Rondeau sings in the chorus “Liar liar, I’m preaching to the choir/ tell me baby/you really think you know me?/Told you once/I told you twice/you took a chance and rolled the dice/I don’t think you’re worth it,” you get absorbed into the song and feel the need to bob your head along with it.
The next two songs “So I Lied” and “I Didn’t Invent The Rainy Day, I Just Have The Best Umbrella” are solid piano-pop songs that anybody would enjoy listening to.
It’s Like Love slows things down with their song “Without You.” It’s a heartfelt ballad about how he can’t move on from his ex as Rondeau sings “And I won’t live another day/If I’m not waking up next to you/And I can’t seem to find a way/To wake up without you.” It makes for a surprise ending for a CD that’s filled with upbeat, catchy pop-saturated songs.
“You’re Too Sweet For Rock and Roll,” is filled with solid songs from start to finish. There’s not any one song that can be deemed skip-worthy. All it takes is one listen to It’s Like Love, and you’ll fall in love with their music.
